Football

The Wheaton Football Team's only loss in its 1904 season was to the School of the Art Institute. In these early years of football--looked disparagingly upon by Pres. Charles Blanchard--student athletes often made their own uniforms and played without a coach and were overseen by volunteer referees (with or without a rule book). For many years President Blanchard put football in the same category with gambling and hard liquor.
