Robert VandenBerg was born in Holland Township, Michigan on April 13,
1936 to Tony and Elizabeth VandenBerg. He graduated from Zeeland High
School and Wheaton College and went to medical school at the University
of Michigan. He married his wife of
52 years, Leone. He served his internship and residency at Butterworth
Hospital and then served for six years in Oneonta, New York. In 1972,
the VandenBerg family returned to Zeeland and Dr. VandenBerg worked for
28 years as an internist. As a physician, he served on short-term
medical team missions to Honduras and the Dominican Republic. Dr.
VandenBerg attended First Baptist Church of
Zeeland where he served as an elder, deacon and also on the missions
team. After his retirement, he worked winters in Texas and Florida with
SOWERS and Hands of Service. Dr. Robert J. VandenBerg died on March 13, 2011 at age 74.
