Miss Luella Edwards of Van Orin, IL, graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry
in 1930 as the first female chemistry graduate. She was born September
20, 1909 in La Moille, IL to Charles Edwards and Mary Clough. She was an
only child. During her junior year she was an assistant in the
Chemistry Department in Wheaton Academy. Edwards was a member of the
Aelioian Literary Society. According to a yearbook caption, "Luella has
many interesting stories to tell of the country and her friends among
the creatures on a farm." She resided at Bent Cottage. She graduated
from St. Mary's Hospital in La Salle, IL in 1955 as a licensed practical
nurse. She was also an Avon representative from 1963 to 1993. She was a
member of the Princeton chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution
and La Moille Women's Club. She attended Van Orin Gospel and Princeton
Bible Church. She was a resident of Mendota Lutheran Home until her
death on February 17, 1994 at the age of 84. |
